RULES & CATEGORIES

OFFICIAL RULES

1. AAG Pageantry does not discriminate against hormones, surgical procedures, enhancements, etc., and will not be considered by any judge in scoring a contestant.

2. Judging will be on a total point ordinal system – 5 judges at preliminaries, and 7 judges at nationals. The high and low will be dropped at nationals.

3. Contestants will be judged in the following categories: Interview, Creative Costume, Talent, Evening Gown (Goddess and Goddess at Large), After 6 Attire (Gent), and On-Stage Question.

4. In any category, contestants may not use excessive glitter, fire, food, or water, nor do anything else that may cause injury to themselves or other persons.

5. Talent may not exceed seven (7) minutes, inclusive of any setup before or teardown after.

6. Contestants may only have one (1) assistant backstage at any time.

7. Contestants will receive admission to all nights of competition for all divisions plus one (1) assistant pass for their respective night(s) of competition. All other persons (backup dancers, family, friends, etc.) must have a valid admission ticket to enter the venue.

8. The use or dispensing of any illegal substance, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, and/or anyone caught in the act of stealing or tampering with another person’s property, be it a contestant or any person in the contestant’s party (backup dancers, assistants, etc.) will not be tolerated and may result in immediate disqualification from the competition, and/or result in ejection from the premises.

9. Contestants must be on time for all designated check-ins and categories. Late arrival to registration will result in the contestant automatically being assigned contestant #1 for the competition. If a contestant has not arrived by the scheduled start time of the Interview category the contestant will be disqualified from the competition.

10. Contestants must submit their music selections (Creative Costume and Talent) prior to orientation. In addition, contestants must possess a backup of their music selections throughout the competition for use in case of emergency.

11. The winner of each division must sign a contract detailing the terms of their reign.

12. AAG Pageantry reserves the right to make any decisions concerning any matter not covered by these rules.

PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION

One (1) administrative point per judge will be deducted per violation (infraction) from the contestant’s total score.

CATEGORIES

INTERVIEW (50 points per judge)

• Contestants will participate in a group interview with anywhere from three (3) to six (6) contestants per group. Each contestant will be allowed an opportunity to introduce themselves to the group and judges before questions begin. Contestants will engage in a lively discussion moderated by the judges, where they express their unique perspectives while listening and building upon the contributions of others. Contestants will be judged on intelligence, communication, attitude, composure, personality, alertness, vocabulary/grammar, general knowledge, personal appearance, and overall ability to articulate and collaborate with their peers. The suggested attire is business professional. The category will be timed as follows: 3-4 contestants = 15 minutes, 5-6 contestants = 20 minutes. 

CREATIVE COSTUME (25 points per judge)

• Each contestant will present themselves to the panel of judges and the audience in a creative costume. The costume must be mobile and contestants must be able to enter and exit the stage on their own. Onstage setup is not permitted. There is a one (1) minute time limit for modeling after which each contestant will introduce themselves (name, contestant number, and introduce their costume) on the microphone. Contestant will provide their own music track for this category not to exceed one (1) minute. Contestants will be judged on creativity, fit, ability to model costume, lip-sync (if you choose to), music selection, the overall effectiveness of costume, and introduction speech. 

TALENT (50 points per judge)

• There is a 7-minute time limit for this category, and there is also a combined total of 5-minutes for set-up/tear-down time limit, if needed, for props/set pieces. Contestants will be judged on talent ability, lip-sync, dance, live vocal (if applicable), entertainment value, costuming, and makeup. If there are props/dancers, they will be judged as well.

EVENING GOWN – GODDESS/AT LARGE (25 points per judge)

• Each contestant will be judged one at a time on a full-length evening gown. It may be of any color, style, or fashion. Contestants will be judged on gown selection, fit, hair, makeup, accessories, poise, modeling ability, and general appearance. Music will be provided for this category. 

AFTER 6 ATTIRE – GENT (25 points per judge)

• Each contestant will be judged one at a time in this category. It may be of any color, style, and fashion. Contestants will be judged on attire selection, fit, hair, accessories, poise, modeling ability, and general appearance. After 6 Attire should not be excessively embellished with beads and/or rhinestones or appear to be a costume. Music will be provided for this category.

ONSTAGE QUESTION (25 points per judge)

• Only contestants who advance to the Top 5 will compete in this category. Each contestant that advances to the Top 5 will answer the same question. Contestants will be sequestered until it is their time to answer the question. Contestants will be judged on poise, confidence, ability to communicate, vocabulary and grammar, and overall effectiveness of answers. At the state/regional preliminary level, all contestants will compete in Onstage Question immediately following individual modeling of Evening Gown or After 6 Attire.
